Joining the brunch scene is Mona’s – An American-Italian Joint, located On The Hill. Those from St. Louis know that if looking for Italian food it is best to flock to the beloved “Hill”. Here you can find amazing pasta, pizza, cannoli… anything Italian. The neighborhood sets the perfect scene for the endless dining options nestled on each corner, welcoming you to dinner as if your grandma was in the kitchen cooking up her secret recipe lasagna. So we were thrilled to here that Mona’s, a fairly new addition to The Hill, opened its doors for weekend brunch – that’s right, both Saturday & Sunday Brunch.
The menu offers up a variety of breakfast dishes, as well as lunch options including pizza and pastas, so no matter what you are in the mood for you have a variety of choices. While I was hoping for a little more “Italian” in the breakfast category, everything we tried was excellent and diners all around seemed happy. The Avocado Toast served up flavorful bites and was on point with the Toast trend sweeping menus. The kiddo’s Pancakes were dynamite… and worth adding as a side to any dish, no matter your age. The Biscuits & Gravy did provide a twist with the Italian sausage gravy, receiving rave reviews from the other side of the table.
We will definitely keep this spot on our radar to try again soon, and we are expecting it to be a brunch hot spot once word gets out… a great find On The Hill! Our only request is to add a little more Italian flare to the brunch side of things, perhaps some weekend specials or a dish that highlights Mona’s sausage Bolognese. Overall, we love the variety and love the use of ricotta in several breakfast dishes… and looking forward to checking it out for lunch and dinner as well.
